Royal Dutch Forestry Society
The Royal Dutch Forestry Association
The Royal Dutch Forestry Association (KNBV), founded in 1910, is the association for professionals in Dutch forestry. The KNBV has around 600 members of various backgrounds such as forest owners, forest managers, advisors, researchers, policy makers, and students. These professionals are members on a personal basis. The association advocates the functions and values of forests, i.e. recreation, timber production, nature, historical monuments, water, carbon sequestration, etc. Another objective of the association is to increase the professional knowledge of its members and to stimulate the exchange of experiences, knowledge and information between members.
What are the activities of the KNBV?
To increase the professional knowledge and enhance the network of its members, the association organises a large number of events every year, such as thematic meetings, symposia, excursions and study tours abroad. In addition, the website (www.knbv.nl) is an important communication channel for the association and part of the website is arranged as a discussion forum. The association actively organises and participates in debates on policy, research and education and formulates position statements relating to forestry issues.
The Commission on Foreign Relations
One of the commissions of the Royal Dutch Forestry Association is the Commission on Foreign Relations. The objective of this commission is to build a network of foreign professionals to exchange and enhance knowledge and expertise in the broad arena of forestry. Every year the commission organises a study tour abroad to gain insight into forest policy and management strategies of that country and to exchange experiences and views. We also warmly welcome foreign forestry professionals to visit our country and discuss issues relating to multipurpose forestry, natural regeneration and wildlife management, among others.
